  1. Yeah I think there are some nice ideas there, although I'm not looking for details of specific missions. A longer introduction cutscene would explain a bit more - I don't tend to 'get' everything in them until I've played the game a while then go look at it again. Maybe at one point in the cutscene you could pick something from a list so you have at least SOME control. I suppose working your way up the ladder gives you something to do, but I think it could be implemented better than just doing missions for gangs. I also think its very unrealistic that YOU as the character have to do everything yourself. Okay sometimes you get driven somewhere or get information from someone, but whenever you start a gang war (in SA) its you versus about eighty Ballas and you don't get very much backup. Maybe someone else in your gang could do stuff, and maybe get it wrong sometimes and you have to arrange to get it sorted out?
  2. Correct. That rule is just there to stop people signing up just to advertise there site, and pretend to post only so they can advertise it more. It happens a lot. Back on topic guys.
  3. Yea, the introductions looked fun in VC and SA. Just shoot Tenpenny and Pulaski before they cause all the trouble. Hey you're going down for shooting a cop anyway, why not three? Mind you, in many games you just get plonked in the middle of nowhere with no explanation then have to suddenly shoot your way out. I don't want GTA to lose its story, I just want to be able to influence it. Of course we aren't going to be born and go to school and make every decision - we are going to join our character partway through his life and stuff will already have happened. Maybe there will be a choice of places to start from, a choice of pasts. Would that just make the game too complicated, and mean that we missed out on a lot of gameplay just because of the past we picked? Is that even a bad thing?
  4. Yea I agree with you there. In current GTA games (eg SanAn) there is only one path to the end. I know we have more freedom than most games, with the ability to do individual missions any way you like and the freedom to roam in between, but there still is only one storyline and nothing changes it. The ability to change what happens later on should be incorporated. If you kill someone important then perhaps that should have repercussions later on (eg a new leader of the gang, and that gang hating you and sabotaging missions you do for other gangs). But again that is still following the same pattern - doing missions for a number of gangs. Is there any risk of you being a GOOD guy in the next game? Like a good cop or businessperson? Is that a choice we could make ourselves in the game?
  5. We're all too familiar with the mission structure of the current GTA games - start off with nothing, betrayed or set-up, have to meet random people, work for them, gain some money and eventually kill everyone to become top of the tree. The storylines of the earlier games were even cruder, just doing missions for random people constantly. Do you think this structure will be changed in GTA4, and what will the storyline and individual missions consist of? For example, would you start off at the top of the tree with people trying to knock you off, or would you be the son of a big boss and have to fight to inherit the gang when he dies, or would you be a cop turning corrupt?
  6. Please do not advertise your own sites. We do not allow that until you have at least 30 posts, and then you should be discreet about it. We do not have too many members, we're just saying that too many of the members that we do have are inactive, don't post and don't come back.
  7. That teaser is just a pic plus some ads, but they're cleverly done AO tea, mature favour

To install that you need to: 1) extract the zip to get the dff/txd files and readme 2) backup landstal.txd +dff from gta3.img (or whatever they're called) 3) replace them with the new txd+dff 4) backup and replace the vehicle data in carcols/handling etc as it says in the readme 5) if there is collision data to replace, you need to use coleditor to edit the collision file or just use GGMM The gta3.img file is an archive, like a zip, but its just a different format. You need a particular tool for working with it (IMG Tool) or you can use multi-purpose GTA tools (GGMM) to do everything for you (txd/dff/handling/collisions/carcols/mods/ide) Step 1 uses WinZip, WinRAR or just Windows XP itself Steps 2+3 use GGMM or IMG Tool Step 4 just uses Notepad - be VERY careful with these files, and make sure you're replacing the right car (eg if the hummer is for the rancher or something, you need to replace the landstalker's data)
  9. We actually get around 20 new members a day, which is way more than months/years ago. Problem is a high proportion never post, and loads just come once (to get one thing) then leave. This is why we're constantly evolving to provide a much better range of services and attractions that are currently available. The gang system was popular, but security had to be put as a priority and we lost it when we upgraded. We're currently still recoding the system and adding loads more stuff in ready for a relaunch in a few weeks. And of course, suggestions help
  10. Nope. Police sirens (including the lights) are entirely hard-coded and are pretty much entirely ineditable. It's one of the basic things in the game that they never expected to change. It doesnt change on-the-fly (like time or health) and isn't editable in the main.scm, which is for missions and what-happens-when. Most we can hope for is the capability to play about with them in GTA4, I'm afraid.
  11. Better than all that, you should be able to float on any object, like barrels, crates and sunken paraphernalia. Paddle with an oar or just your hands, make your own raft. Pretty Funky. And a big ass ship too, of course
  12. They're not middle of year, they're end of year really. In September we go back going up a year (or grade or whatever). Would be silly if it was massive in the middle of a year's classes, but its after exams and everything.
  13. I have actually never been to America. Mine starts August 31st.
  14. Just wondering how life is for everybody a few months on. Mine has improved, been going out a lot more and hopefully driving soon. Hopefully. RHCP just topped it off really.
  15. As fun as blowing things up is, the problem has to be what people like JT would say: Rockstar encouraging terrorism Grand Theft Suicide Bombs Game praising 9/11 bombers Although I firmly believe these games do not encourage violence, there are many that think they do. And these people have the power to ban these games.
  16. He's asking if he can join a stunt team (ie group of stunters). If you can get high-quality stunt movies from your PS2 onto your PC then that isnt a reason to not let you in. So long as your stunts are good and you work well in the team then 'they' should let you in. Of course you'll have to find a stunt team to join first, and they'll have to want new members. But that's what this topic's for, isnt it?
  17. He obviously mistyped the title, most likely not a native English speaker. You can't just install a San Andreas car into GTA3, because they work differently. You would be able to actually install the DFF and TXD but they wouldn't work. You could find an experienced modder (someone who makes car mods a lot) and get them to import the car and re-export it in a format suitable for GTA3, but it is very unlikely that they would want to do that.
  18. Me+888ball just went to a RHCP concert in Manchester, was absolutely awesome. The warm-up band - Chick Chick Chick - were pretty boring (and crazy). Basically they looked like ABBA meets the BeeGees, and sounded like.. well.. everything. I was standing right at the front, got completley squashed and soaked in sweat. Image Gallery Good Fun

Well he hasn't caused trouble yet, we'll let it slide.

We've decided not to enforce that, simply because there aren't that many members who've been here ages, have loads of posts and still come on here regularly. Most of the ones that do are staff. So we've had to keep the Veteran criteria fairly loose, and we've decided that (for now), once a veteran, always a veteran. That is unless you do something bad like spam/hack/die.

Haha, no My real name is Gerard Boyers (see my sig and avatar), although online I've been going under the name "Xenon" for a few years. I have been stealthy and hiding under my new name. Nothing to do with the member "Stealth". Although I did put "formerly Xenon/Zino" in my sig until a week or two ago.

Now we finally have an honour for The GTA Place's oldest and wisest members - the Veterans. The Staff have selected 13 members who have been here the longest, posted the most and understand these forums more than any others to be Veterans. Veterans have certain privileges on the forums such as being able to remove the "edited by" line when editing a post, and being able to change their vote in polls. They also have lighter restrictions on things like flooding and search limits, and greater PM and upload storage limits, and the ability to delete their own posts. Veteran status is NOT a job - we have issued these privileges on the basis that these members are ones we can trust and rely upon, and it is intended to make their life easier. This group will be the first place we look for gang leaders and new forum moderators. They will also be consulted on important issues, and help decide some things we do on the forums. So congratulations to: Mother Theresa, Caitaiko, tommy vercetti guy, Slayer, biggamer132, Slavik Von Stockholm, Bryzed, Genocide, aemboy15, Oscar, crazychicken17, smallpancake and Chrisman. If you want to be a Veteran, you simply have to be active on the forums for a few months, and if you have been a leading member of the community, contributed a lot, and not done anything too stupid, then we might make you a veteran when we do the next intake. There are certain criteria that have to be fulfiled before we can make anybody a veteran, so don't be disappointed if you aren't one straightaway. Gerard and Chris have the final say in any individual case. We will add to this group in the near future, yet we don't expect to have to remove anybody unless they actually do something wrong. Hope this gives our new and recent members something to look up to.
