Gerard
The current betas of Windows 7 actually have the SAME system requirements than Vista. Add that to working faster, and it's all good. Requirement Vista Premium Windows 7 CPU 1GHz 1GHz RAM 1GB 1GB GPU 128MB 128MB And of course both need DirectX 9 cards and 16gb of HD space available. Where did you get such a small HDD from or is it just really old? If the manufacturer hasn't provided drivers (Vista ones may be worth trying) then chances are the company is shit and don't deserve your business ever again, go for a cheap USB wireless adapter or something, I have to use one at the moment but it works perfectly, was only £10 or so. Spaz The Great
Linksys doesn't even have Vista drivers for this old card. We have a USB card((Linksys again)), but I think that shit out on us when I blew the fuse in my bedroom >.> The old drive came out of Chestnut's PC, because we put a new hard drive in there and reinstalled Windows((she had a 40gb and a 16 gb HDD, she's had this system since the late 90's)). Huckleberry Pie
My professor and I tried installing W7 Ultimate on a system with only 512MB, and surprisingly, it ran quite acceptably...

Charger
Wouldn't Windows Update downloaded it automatically? Or do we need to download it manually? Edited April 18, 2009 by Charger
GTA Don
It's only available on torrent sites right now. It will be open to the public on May 5. Edited April 19, 2009 by GTA Don
Gerard
Beta 1 was available to the public back in February (which I'm using right now), but that was stopped after a while. As Don says, May 5th is the next public release (RC1).
JustADummy
What? Weird, I have the build 7077 and it is actually the RC1 as some people found by registry etc keys ending by "win7rc1".

Gerard
RC1 is available to Technet subscribers as of today-ish. It's been available inside Microsoft for a short while, which is probably where the leak came from.
Charger
Is it better to remove the beta and install the RC one?
Gerard
Yes, but I'd wait until RC1 comes out - to make sure you have a legit (and fully working) version.
chris82
RCs are always better than beta builds, RC is essentially something Microsoft would feel comfortable releasing as a final product. When its in the public I'll give it a go, I'm using an earlier build for my main OS and I have been for a long while now, it's wonderful.
Connor
Does anyone know why my resolution wouldn't go as high as it will with XP? (When I had the beta a few months back)

Spaz The Great
A question; Is 7 better than XP or Vista? I think so far most people are in agreement that it is.
_Ray
I'm sure that 7 with crush Vista and even XP in both the 32 and 64 bit versions. As for XP vs. Vista, XP x32 is better (by a little), and Vista x64 is better (by a lot). The main thing I don't really like about Vista is its fucking idiot proofing. GTA Don
I trust most of you remembered that RC1 was released today. I'm currently downloading it now, 71% atm.
chris82
I downloaded it as well, tomorrow when I have more time I will install it. It sounds like it's going to be awesome! The beta builds were so I don't think it will be worse.
GTA Don
Microsoft officially confirmed today that Windows 7 will be released by December. Source Good news, now we just have to wait for pricing. Relating to the RC1, I think I've fallen in love with it. It's just so simple and intuitive, compatibility isn't much of an issue, I can't download Shockwave but that's okay, for some reason.
