  1. Occasionally the advert providers take advantage of their position and put on more annoying ads. Obviously this is a breach of their terms, so it will be reported and dealt with. It will come up now and then, in rotation with all the other adverts. Just make sure you click on the X if you see it, or refresh the entire page (when a different ad will appear). Thanks for mentioning it.
  2. Obviously it has to be of a very high standard to be taken seriously - and has to be original (not just the existing one plus a couple of images, not the same as other sites). Doesn't mean he won't do it, we'd still like to see all your suggestions... I personally think a wider banner would be good atm - make it 1250px or something (so theres 30px to kill for scrollbars and the padding/margins). Obviously it needs to fade to a solid color to the right, or if you're *really* good you could tile it exactly.
  3. I agree the one on the main site definitely needs changing - it's two bridges and a hill, with a handful of protagonists clustered together. The forum one is alright, but has needed some updating for IV for ages. There are plans for a new site design and forum skin, and no doubt both of those will include new logos. However, it may be an idea to add some IV stuff to both of the existing ones in the meantime.
  4. Technically, Lounge is for chatting - how people are, whats going on in your life, anything you want to talk about, anything interesting you want to show us, any general questions you have. That doesn't include millions of crappy topics as Spaz describes. Fun & Off Topic is for a few popular forum games and random topics. But there should be a limit, the line should be drawn somewhere.
  5. System restore will *not* help - windows has no control over that. A partition is just an area of your hard drive you use as a drive. Usually your entire hard drive is 1 partition, but sometimes you have an extra one for recovery data, and sometimes you choose to have more than one. The point is that you can delete/format one partition without affecting the others, and is the best way of having multiple Windows/Linux installations on one hard drive. If you delete a partition, you'll simply not be able to use the space that that partition used up, UNTIL you make a new partition in that space. That can be done from the disk manager in computer management, or using the XP install disk, or with other software. The other option is to expand your main partition to fill up the space. This can be done on Server 2008, and you can buy some software to do it (eg Paragon Partition Manager). But its tricky, and dangerous (you might break your main partition and have to start again)
  6. We do all use the same number system. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 etc etc. Because we have 10 fingers, that makes counting in tens easy. Nobody counts in binary or hex or octal or anything, and years are obviously all in decimal. 1000 is only a round number because its the start of a new decimal sequence. Just like FFF + 1 is 100 in hex (which is 256), or 111 + 1 is 1000 in binary (which is 8). It's a round number in the human counting system, entirely man-made, nothing natural.

  8. That's quite funny. Thing is... what is special about the number 1000? So there are supposedly exactly a thousand days from GTA IV's release to this particular date when something special is supposed to happen... what's special about that? The number system we count in is just based on the number of fingers we have, nothing more. So the decimal system has ten numeric symbols (0-9) and they just cycle through and stack up when you run out. There's actually nothing special about 10 or 100 or 1000 or a million or anything. There IS something special about days and years, cos they're actual physical things (earth rotating, orbiting sun etc). So birthdays are important (aka how many times you've been round the sun). But numbers of years aren't - 100 years is just that many times round the sun, no special number except in our counting system. So yeah, nothing special about it at all. Barely a coincidence.

  12. It is better to ask questions here - do not go round PMing staff individually. A lot more people can answer your questions here. Also helps if you provide links - so everyone can quickly go to where the problem is. I may be wrong, but I think the downloads database only recognises you if you have uploaded a mod before. As you can see Chris has a page, but Gerard doesn't. If you upload a mod, and it gets approved, then that might make that system recognise you.

  14. Gaming blog The Cut Scene, part of Variety, has reported that there was a Grand Theft Auto movie in the early stages of production. Apparently Rockstar had warmed to the idea of doing a film, and Take Two was in negotiations with an unnamed film studio - even Eminem was being approached to play the lead. Although it appears, like the planned Halo film, the GTA movie has been scrapped, Cut Scene saying it "fell apart...at the last minute." However, Dan Houser has responded to the media, dismissing the claims that the movie had ever been started: Perhaps it was only a suggestion floating around at Take Two, or perhaps it is just a piece of overzealous journalism, but it is still intriguing to hear at least rumours of a GTA movie from the creators themselves. Do you think Take Two would make a GTA movie? Should be a one? If so, who should be in it? Let us know in the forums.

  16. And another thing... I'm sick of people telling mods what to do. Everyone is saying stuff like "lock this topic" and "ban him" and "delete this". I've been a moderator here for years, and I even wrote most of the rules for the site - I'm sure I've got the hang of moderating here by now.
  17. This actually gives us a bit of an insight into how you see the moderation team. Forgive me for this bit of psychoanalysis, but I couldn't resist. Let me set the record straight on a couple of things which you may or may not misunderstant. Banning seems to be what you've mentioned the most here. The word "ban" has appeared ten times in this topic already. I'm sure you know we don't just go round banning people all day, but we in fact we very rarely actually issue permanent bans - only a couple a week at most, and they only go to actual spammers, l33t haxx0rz or spam bots. Suspensions, fines and warning are all more common, but we've been trying to moderate without having to use those tools. Don't think we won't use them if we have to. UO - we don't actually say you must use perfect grammar. For the most part we just try and make sure you can understand people, cuz if u tlk lk dis den u dnt alws no wot thei men. its the same if people talk in really long sentences with no punctuation and no pauses and use the word 'and' all the time and you wonder if they are ever going to finish but they dont and you have to read the entire thing in one go and it gets really hard and you lose track of what theyre saying and its hard to understand and stuff. BTW, using abbreviations like lol is usually alright though atm, so long as it is only a few normal ones (lol, lmao, rofl, btw, atm, imo) and not text-message-language. If people don't speak in a way people can understand, it's pointless. We try and help people to be able to get their points across properly, and it makes life easier for everyone else. As Lou Park says... sometimes it's better to keep your mouth shut and let people wonder whether you're a fool, than to open your mouth and clear all their doubts. As for "courtesy and respect" - we don't expect much from our younger members, or the less-intelligent ones. But thinking you're better than everyone else, and thinking you can go round saying whatever you like needs to be dealt with. Unless people get a filter on that brain/mouth thing, they're going to cause trouble. It isn't the fact that they're arrogant or selfish on its own, it's the trouble they usually cause when they don't get their own way. This topic can stay so long as people don't start mocking.
  18. You think GTA IV will finish after the main storyline and a few multiple routes? I still play SA after years, and I haven't repeated the storyline since the first time i went through it. I can see how the RPG games are continuous, because you can always opt into new quests, and with online ones there can always be new stuff added. GTA games are obviously different - after the storyline missions and whatever else you participate in, you can start making your own stuff to do, and using the provided world for your own storylines, scenarios, jobs and events. GTA games are actually really creative, as they allow you to just go and do whatever you feel like doing, over a massively wide spectrum of possibilities, from taxi driving to gang wars to policing to whatever. The problem with IV is that it's going to be harder to just rule the city, which was easily possible by the time you'd completed past games. However this may open up avenues for much more realistic things to do, which will be cool.
  19. Please stop making topics. That screenshot could very easily have gone into any of hundreds of other topics, including one of the ones in the main news area. Your previous hazer news team topic had been deleted, it should stay that way. As we have explained, topics are for new threads of conversation. This isn't enforced strictly, but you've been making more topics than most people, and most of them useless or duplicative or ill-intentioned. Stick to replying. There are 5 events in your warn log, and that is far too many for a new member. You need to stop, calm down, and stop drawing attention to yourself.
  20. Why would bi people have multiple partners? That's nothing to do with it. Bisexuality means they like/enjoy EITHER gender, not necessarily both. They don't care (as much as a straight/gay person) whether their partner is male or female, other stuff is more important. Nothing to do with having a bf AND a gf.

  22. Jordan, cut it out. So you're Scottish, amazing. I don't see what that has to do with anything. Nobody commented on your grammar or spelling until you brought it up. To be honest, nobody cares. Unless you start insulting people, because you can prevent that. Hazer, this is why I told you to read read the forums more. Number one rule is if someone insults you, don't insult them back. If they flame you, you don't have to flame them back. Just ignore them and move on, or comment on the on-topic half of their post (if there is one). Also, don't tell us what to do. I've been modding on this forum for 3 years now, I think I've got the hang of it. "If I was Geread I would give you a warning and a lesson on grammar" - grammar isn't the only thing that matters, it just helps people understand each other. "your insults cant hurt me cause this is the internet" - If insults can't hurt over the internet, why do you insult him? "ban me" - Sometimes I wonder why people like you bother. You obviously care enough about the forum to come here, register and post. You obviously care about Hazer's opinion enough to retaliate to him and swap insults. Yet you put on the false attitude as if you don't care. Very strange. If you guys don't like each other, go fight on MSN or somewhere else. I already explained how topics are important to us, and how the GTA IV section is also important. If you go round fighting like this, you won't be here for very long. If you start ignoring staff and fighting and flaming when expressly told not to, you won't last the day. Your posting rights have been revoked for 24 hours. Take that as a final warning, because we don't need people here fighting like this.
  23. "Scottish" isn't a separate language... Celtic and Gaelic are. And don't bother with phrases like "heads stuck up ur ass", that's just rude. If you put your points more... calmly, people will respect what you have to say a lot more. As soon as you start swearing and handing out personal insults, people stop listening to your point and just start arguing, no matter how right you may have been in the first place. Hazer, I think you shouldn't be making so many topics. Yes some of them are okay, but some of them are not. Stick with replying in other peoples' topics until you've been here longer and you understand the forum a bit better. Topics are much more visible than posts, and are used to start an entirely new topic of conversation that does not already exist. Obviously this is not adhered to strongly in the off-topic areas, but should definitely count in important places like this. On topic, yes I think Niko will react more to being set on fire, not just standing there losing health. Likewise with everything else in the game. Take for instance the fact that if Niko falls, he will curl into a ball ready to roll when he lands. ^ those sentences probably wasn't worth an entire topic.

  25. *sigh* To everyone with with half a brain, let me use Raymond as an example of the typical ignorance a lot of people have. Some of my friends didn't even know gay people actually existed - they thought it was an urban myth or super-rare. And of course they expected gay people to be really gay and flamboyant. Needs moar edukeshun!
