STFU now both of you. Spaz: Okay so he didn't understand that karma is slightly different to fate and destiny (linked, but means something specific), doesn't matter. I think it is obvious what he was referring to by his explanation, even if he used one word when he shouldn't. Don't fret over it or you start starting shit. OGTAM: Don't rise to him. Spaz find it incredibly easy to piss people off, especially if he's right. If you have a conversation with him, you need to expect it to happen and if you think he's starting something, don't even comment on what he says. No more comments about the above - they will be deleted. Back ontopic... What OGTAM said was that if you went back in time and 'replaced' your old self, you would have to act out your entire life exactly all over again up until the point you travel back in time, because you need to travel back in time for it to really happen. The problem is that if you killed yourself, it wouldn't be the dead you that travels back in time - because that person would die every time. The person that lives the 2nd half of your life and then travels back in time to kill the younger you then lives the 2nd half of your life again is the same person every time. Where did that "older" you come from? The younger you always died, killed by the older you who came out a time machine. But that means you came out of nowhere, which doesn't make sense - theres no such thing as an older you, because you were killed by someone coming out of a time machine - doesn't matter who that is.

Please don't post GTA topics in the general discussion area. Post them in the relevant subforum, or General Gaming if you aren't sure. The main website contains all the information you need to know about the GTA games. San Andreas (PC, PS2, Xbox) was the last large GTA game out, but two PSP games have been released since (then ported to PS2). GTA IV is for PS3 and Xbox 360, and is due to be released in the next couple of months.

Ah okay - I think that's that's because fopen caches what goes through it. Use the b flag when opening it (as well as w), and use clearstatcache(). Or you could just say "if the file exists, fopen it" ?

Bumping is bad. I see you're writing to notes.txt if youre POSTing content, and then reading it if it exists. How do you know it "doesnt work" with an empty file? Do you get an error, or are you putting something else into the IF to test it? Why don't you always have the file there, and just see if it's empty or not?

I left it in my post so people would know wtf I'm talking about

1) You can't download "the Internet" - it isnt a single collection of files, it's just loads of computers connected to it (including your PCs). 2) The above link takes you to some images, not an actual download 3) All the available HTTP files on the Internet would be bigger than 22 petabytes (22,822 TB) 4) The filesize and stuff above is just text, he hasn't uploaded it to the forum 5) I am shocked and appauled that so many people believed this... seriously 6) Even though it's funny, link removed.

One DVD holds 4.6 GB of data. You need around 3 of them. That is the correct type of drive yes, but you can also get black ones and external USB ones. For the internal one (which you linked to) It doesn't say whether it is SATA or IDE, which you probably need to know to make sure it'll work with your PC. Get SATA if your PC is recent (year or so) or if you know your PC supports SATA, else get IDE if its older (2+ years). Or just get USB to be safe and it'll plug into any PC.

You missed my point. A handful of people CLAIM to be from the future, okay fine that's fair. But what about everyone else? Surely billions of people would want to travel back in time, especially if you could buy stocks (or gamble) and become a billionaire. Where are they all then?

DVD/CD-RW Drive means it is a DVD Reader and a CD Reader/Writer - this is called a Combo drive. You cannot burn DVDs with that drive. Pretty much any DVD writer can write DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW etc - its not like it can be only DVD-Rs and not RWs. If you're calculating by length of time, then you need to convert all your music to the same format (where lower quality uses less space) which will take ages. If you just want to back up the files and not convert them, then you need to work on file size. A CD can hold a few hundred MB, a DVD can hold a few GB (depending on whether you go dual layer etc). For 13gb, you'd need 20/30 CDs or 3 DVDs. DVD writer costs you £20/30 (I just got a new SATA one). Worth the expense usually. But all my music is on a 250gb external hard drive, along with all my other backups.

I have merged all your VC-MP topics into this one, so the order of posts might look weird. Make ONE topic about a problem you're having, and then keep posting in that topic for every similar problem. Do NOT make a new topic for every single slightly-different VC-MP question. Do NOT double post - you can edit your post if you want to add more information, otherwise wait until someone else has replied, you don't need to reply again to make sure someone sees it (bumping). Do you even have Vice City installed? You need that before you can install VC-MP. Do NOT attempt to download any GTA games off the Internet - that is illegal and you will be removed from this forum if you do. Formal warning issued for creating loads of useless repetitive topics begging for help, and asking for illegal downloads of GTA games.

When you say we can "view the past", you actually mean that light that was reflected off objects hasn't reached us yet, but that is just a record of the past. If you read a website, you're reading how the website was a second or so ago, because that's when it set off to reach you. It may have changed since then, but you'll have to wait to find out. You aren't mysteriously looking into the past, you're just viewing a record of it. This is the same as light taking a while to reach Earth. Nothing magical about it, just the data travelling slow. The obvious way to disprove most methods of time travel is to ask why there are no proven visitors from the future. Okay maybe one or two people have come back and been burnt as witches, but if the future really holds a time machine, surely (over time) millions of people would use it. Personally I don't believe in travel to the past, but I do believe that there are (or will be) ways to view what happened, because everything we do affects so much. Parallel universes are an interesting concept I will expand on some other time. Some people say that every decision creates an alternate existence where the other option was chosen - and if you think how many different decisions YOU make every second (when to breathe, when to take a step, which letter to type), there are a lot of possibilities. To me, this is rubbish. Some decisions are obvious (whether or not to stop walking before you hit the wall), and there is no way you could justify making a different decision in the alternate universe. Is there some cut-off point for difficulty of decisions? Of course not. Every choice we make is for a reason. I chose to listen to this song because I like it and I haven't heard it in a while. I chose to reply to this topic because it interests me. I chose to write in English because its my native language, tgtap's main language and the native language of most people reading this topic. Not a hard choice. Even more complicated decisions like when I leave the house for my meeting at 4:30 is based on loads of different factors that I am BOUND to make the decision to leave at the time I do, there is no other possibility because I didn't choose it. If I get distracted and stay for another 5 minutes, that is bound to happen at that time and distract me. That happened for a reason, not by chance. moar l8r

I could go on for hours about this stuff (and have done many times) but not tonight... maybe another time. I think we need to look at this more at the physical level. Take the scenario of travelling back in time to kill yourself. You step into the time machine, disappear and reappear in the past. When you travel, you actually "magically" disappear, and cease to exist - anybody watching you step into the machine would see you disappear. When reappearing in the past, anybody watching would see you "magically" appear out of nowhere. That itself is impossible - there is a finite combined amount of matter and energy in the world, and so to appear somewhere you need to use up some matter/energy. We usually do that by leaving somewhere and moving somewhere else - when you walk you move your matter from position A to B. When you travel back in time, does the matter/energy go with you? If you did disappear into thin air, you would expel energy and probably leave behind all your matter (dust?). If you did appear from thin air, you would take in energy and matter from everything nearby (dust?). Last time I checked, it was pretty hard to make a human out of bits of soil and blu tac, so you would probably have to send all your matter with you, not just the information about how to rebuild you. If you could scan a human being and replicate it out of any type of matter (dust, soil, gravy) that would be a much more significant advancement than time travel - recalibrating matter into any format you want. It's called alchemy. But giving that matter life? That's witchcraft. Either way, without physically transporting your matter to the past, you can't be recreated at the other end. That's why teleporters are... non existent. Sure you can scan something and "print" it out at the other end, but that won't be alive, and it's pretty hard to have every possible substance in a human on hand ready for the build. So back to the theory... Let's say you DO transport your physical matter back into the past (which would work). You would actually disappear out of the universe when you travel back. When you arrive in the past, you would be totally new to the universe - it's got a little bit bigger. You kill yourself, but you would continue to live, because that is where you exist now. You are not the manifestation of the matter that you just killed, you have been created in addition to it. The time-travel conundrum I prefer is the "knowledge out of nowhere" one. Lets say we travelled back in time 60 years, and took with us a record of a Beatles' song, then gave it to the Beatles before they wrote it. They then copy the song you gave them, record it and release the record. Then you in the future take the record back to them in the past, and they copy it again. Who wrote the song in the first place? It wasn't the Beatles, because they copied it from you. It wasn't you, because you took it from the copy. If that analogy doesn't work for you, try a book or a story or anything created. You could even do it with a physical object - take an iPod from 2009 and bring it back to 2007 and give it to Apple. Who designed it in the first place? Nobody? Impossible. These conundrums prove to me that time travel can't exist, because things can't come out of nowhere. I certainly believe that we will one day be able to view the past, but not to the point where we can alter it, because then by definition it is no longer the past. You may be able to alter an alternative past, in addition to the one that you came from, and you would alter the events in that past, but not yours. Damn liar.

You obviously didn't look very hard. A country isn't the only thing you can say about where you live - how about city, whether you like it or not, where you used to live etc?

This topic is to outine some of the important questions that get asked a lot about the forum store, gangs and quizzes. If you do not quite understand anything here, just reply in this topic and someone will help you out. If you have a question that is not related to this, check other existing topics to make sure it hasn't been answered before. Gangs See Also: Gangs FAQ The gang system is a text-based roleplay system on the forum. Gang wars do not involve online GTA multiplayer (yet) The gang system was created by Chris exclusively for The GTA Place. It is not a downloadable mod for IPB, and it is not for sale. Anybody can join a gang, you just need the permission of the gang's Don (owner) Do not beg gang officers to be accepted into a gang - if you do they are even less likely to let you in You can create a gang if you meet the minimum requirements of 100 posts and 300 days on the forum You can not be in more than one gang at a time. You cannot create a gang if you are already in a gang. The largest gangs have their own private subforums, where they can discuss things in private. If you are not in a particular gang, you can not access their private subforum, and you should not attempt to. Being at "war" with a gang does NOT give you the right to flame them or spread hate. If you are not part of a gang, you can not take part in wars, however you can attack individual members. Gang wars are infrequent, and there are currently two proposals in the work for a replacement gang system. Money As you post on the forum, you gain forum money in dollars You can also gain money for completing quizzes in the store Forum money can be spent in the Store on weapons, vehicles and property for gang wars You can also spend forum money on other members, for doing favours for you For example, you can pay people in the Graphics & Writer's Pad to design a signature for you This is also a good way for you to earn your own money, by setting up your own shop. You get 5 points for replying to a post, and 10 points for creating a new topic If you are found spamming (creating useless topics/posts) in order to gain money, you will be dealt with by the staff Staff can fine you of points as a punishment for spamming or breaking other forum rules. Do not ask Staff to give you forum dollars, they will not. Store & Quizzes The store is the place where you can spend your forum dollars The store is currently out of stock, because there are no gang wars approaching You can also take quizzes in the store for fun and to earn money Quizzes are not currently fully working due to technical problems, but you can try them anyway Do not point out that these do not work, as we do already know and are working on it. Do not beg for them to be fixed.

What is the point of dollers on here?

That Ibanez is gorgeous - I've been looking at the RG 321, but am just a bit wary of the build quality (this one is Malaysian). You can't been Wooten for a bass solo, but most of the stuff he does is too percussive for me, barely any tone in it.

I know Steve McLaren personally, and as soon as you meet him you know he's an awesome guy who cares so much for his team and his family - and the team all think he's great too. He's had a tough year-and-a-half with England, through 18 injury-riddled matches and nothing really important (until now). He obviously made some mistakes in team selection, training and/or preparation for the Croatia match, and if different decisions has been made we may have been able to win and get through - but without making excuses, you can't lay the blame entirely at the manager's feet. On the pitch only the players count, and if they're injured, depressed, unfit, pissed off or can't play in mud, you're gonna have trouble no matter what you do. It is right that he should go, as we won't be entering another tournament for 3 years, and you can't have McLaren holding the position awkwardly until then, especially with doubts about his quality. McLaren was picked on popularity and personality, rather than outright football management skill. At Middlesbrough he pushed the team quite far, but they never hit the top. England expects someone who is an exceptional coach, and will not accept anything less.

I've been playing bass for a while now, but i started off as a drummer. I find that bass tends to be underestimated and unnoticed by people until they meet a shit bassist (and notice the difference to a good one) or if they sit and listen to an amazing bass riff.

Guys stop arguing. Who cares if this one guy doesn't know how to say thank you. Just ignore him if you don't want to talk to him. Don't add people on MSN to ask them questions - that is private/personal - just ask them here on the forum where a lot more people can answer. If your VCMP just isn't working at all, then you haven't installed it properly. Reinstall it and follow the readme instructions by the letter. We offer support on GTA games, not every single modification ever. We offer that support not because we have to, but because there are a lot of people than want to help. You do not have a "right" to have people fix your stuff for you. If you want people to help, be prepared to at least be nice to them for giving up their time for you.

Not necessarily play, but just sexual exploration. Younger kids who have a "girlfriend" and they only hold hands are just playing - they don't do anything and they won't be feeling anything either. They're often just living up to expectations of others, and copying grown-ups. I obviously had to miss out on that part of my childhood, as I doubt I'd still be alive if I went round with a pretend boyfriend all the time... From 13 or something, sexual feelings are noticable, but they don't control you like they do when you're a bit older. You might have a girlfriend and even experiment a bit physically, but even then it doesn't count as sex or love. When you get to something like 15, yeah you do start to feel sexually involved with other people and that age is when people start to do it for real, but this is still just lust. I haven't seen proper romantic love for a couple of years after that age.

I said the above because there are literally hundreds of really bad tiny GTA-related forums, usually made by members of bigger forums. They are set up with the intentions of becoming a massive community, but they usually get forgotten within a couple of weeks and end up with six members (the friends of the webmaster) and they all have a handful of posts each. You can spot these forums because they have loads of categories (eg Vice City Stories) with no posts in. Generally if someone is going to set up a forum half-heartedly, they'll use a free host. We used to have a big problem with people setting up a free forum in 2 minutes then going round advertising it as if it was amazingly good. A couple of people would go to see what it was about, and that would be it. But when we have lots of those happening every week, it just became spamming, so we outlawed it. To make a new GTA forum successful at all, it needs to be special. That doesn't mean it has to have a pretty colour for its skin or have a funny name - it needs to be unique and have something the other existing forums don't have. For example, The GTA Place became popular because it was one of the first sites with a massive downloads database, which made it special, so lots of people came here. If you're confident you can make your site special, and you know you are going to put the work in to make it good and get a lot of people to visit it, then you should probably invest in your own hosting, a domain name and an IPB license (or vBulletin if you prefer) - that way you have total control over the site, and it isn't cluttered in adverts. If you can't be bothered, or you don't think it's going to work - don't waste your time by setting it up, annoying people by advertising it, then closing it down or forgetting about it a week later. If you can be bothered, you need to stick with it.

I'm with Spaz all the way. The actual matches won't affect the gangs on the forums - there's no leaderboard or points or whatever - so there's nothing that says they have to be split up into consoles. Say we had a gang, say the DS, with ten members. Five of them have the 360 version of GTAIV, and they war against 5 members of the SFM who also have the 360 version. They hate each other and hurl insults. Then three members of the DS who have SA:MP on PC war against 3 from the SFM who also have it, and they hate each other and hurl insults on the forum. The gangs are still the gangs, and the different consoles are just like different requirements for each individual battle in the war. Spaz might participate in the 360 and PS3 battles, Chris might fight in the PC and 360 battles, I might only fight in the PC ones, Chris82 might fight in all three... doesn't make any difference except to who you can fight and how often. On another note, how about recording the outcomes of planned matches? Okay so we can't do it automagically/electronically, but we can still record them on the forums if both parties agree on the score/winner/outcome or a neutral spectator/official records it. This wouldn't count towards anything real, it's just a record of who pwnt who.

That's another skin edit that's been reverted since the upgrade to 2.3.2 (although 2.3.3 is out as well now). It only takes a few seconds to add it on again, and Chris is already aware of it.
