We are currently producing a new flagship CBBC show called Level Up, to be broadcast on BBC2 and the CBBC Channel between April and September, and wondered if you might be able to help us with a request. We are looking for a child to be our games guru, and wondered if you could help. We want to chat to any kids who have a passion for games, and would be able to talk about it passionately on screen. It would be great if they had gone that extra mile and maybe helped develop a game, do some testing and reviewing or even started up their own business around the gaming area. Anything that makes them extra gaming special! Also, we were interested in finding out if there was a young UK online clan or British champion that might fit the bill. Here's the blurb of what we're looking for: CBBC are looking for a kids computer games expert for a brand new show called Level Up! If you are aged between 12 and 15, have a passion for all things games and are a keen player of everything from Fifa to Fable, The Sims to Need For Speed; then give us a call. Maybe you write a games blog, or review games for your local or school newspaper, or maybe you helped set up a gaming clan in your area? Tell us about your games passion and why you think you might be the games guru of Britain! If you think you fit the bill, reply here and I'll give you the details on how to apply. Good luck.

Is this really what gta3 was going to look?
Gerard replied to ITBTD's topic in General GTA3 Discussion
Oh no of course it isnt complete. Its only, what, five years old? Well its nice to see some beta screenshots. Gives us an insight into how the developers work. Also gives up the opportunity to estimate what is still editable in GTA4 and what is a priority to Rockstar. -
I think we have some homophobes here that need to grow up. Just because someone doesn't have a girlfriend doesn't mean they like men.. There's a difference between not liking girls and liking boys. There's a also a difference between being raped and raping. Would you believe it. Closed because anybody who is stupid enough to reply is just here to argue and won't even bother listening to our points of view.

Yeah thats a nice idea - cop training. Thats starting off the whole "getting a job" debate - some people say that its just not fun to have to go to work everyday and stuff like that. I like the idea of just restricting it to the already-included jobs (vigilante/ambulance/firefighter/brown thunder) but not the other ones (pizza delivery, ice cream van, coach driver etc)

Yeah Shane owns popularPCs - which I did most of the work for. I think he made a forum skin for Crath (not sure how much he made himself).
-
Shane isn't a newbie to IBP (he reckons he's better than me) but he perhaps isn't too familiar with the coding sides of it, making mods himself. Skins he could manage or so I think.
-
Shane seriously, you just shunned that idea from your own site. There is a range of skins on these forums which should accommodate for most people's tastes.

We try to keep these forums monitored 24 hours a day. This morning, Akuma and Spaz cleaned up the posts until I banned "Johnathan" at about 8am. When GTA is a hot topic again, these forums will become a lot more active, and more moderation is needed. The fact of the matter is, not everything can be monitored all the time. Its a good thing that there are mods on several times a day, at least every couple of hours, who can clean up what they can and then inform an admin or super mod to help with the rest, which is what happened today. Apologies to anybody offended by the horrific and grotesque posts made by Mr Gilb (the perpetrator of these repeated spammings). We did our best to remove them as soon as we were aware of them. We are still following the line of enquiry to bring these to a stop, since they help nobody.

Its only his second post, no need to warn him, just tell him. Johnathan: don't post random replies to old topics But i'll lock this.

You're absolutley right there, even if Liberty City Stories did somewhat spoil that story, you have a point about it only covering three cities (one of which was a state). Brand new is the order of the day, but perhaps a few legacys will remain. We all know Rockstar love their easter eggs and cross-references to previous games, I don't think GTA4 will steer away from that.
-
Meh... thats what you get in Alpha stages. Good job for getting it going though, I think this was something that was sorely missed.

###### topics are treated no differently to the rest, except usually ###### topics are actually useful. Some ###### topics have no replies, some are old, and some are recent. If your reply is worth reading then post it, if not then don't. Its unlikely you would be warned for posting in a ###### topic though, since usually its useful. Don't take that to mean that you're immune from being warned, if your post was irrelevant or offensive then you would still be warned.

You're right there, what he's setting out to find is whether the kids are screwed up because of the violent games they play. Its my opinion that they learn their aggression from role models in their life, specifically same-sex role models (Bandura). Perhaps playing games are the way he releases that aggression, on peds rather than pupils. You could argue that if it wasn't for his video games he would just go and shoot everyone, but he can do that in his virtual world easy enough. San Andreas is immersive enough to be believable after playing for a while, so exerting aggression ingame could well be a very worthwhile activity, just like a stress ball at work or something.

Hang on right there, that is in no way bullshit. He is 13 (true) He plays games (true) He plays violent games (true) Those games are rated higher than his age (true) He doesn't go out and rape prosititues, kill cops or drive tanks off cliffs (true) That IS the debate. In his sarcasm he is pointing out the idiocy of the single-minded claims that if you play a violent game you will become voilent. I cite Bandura, Ross and Ross who observed that specific stylised aggressive actions were repeated by observers (children), however I must point out one thing. Most people over the age of 12 understand the difference between a video game and real life. Most people who play games regularly will understand that violence occurs in the game that does not occur in everyday life. Most people will be able to judge without being prompted that what happens in the game doesn't get repeated out of the game. Kids in the playground may play at fighting each other with karate, but they don't set out to kick the other guys head off like they saw in mortal combat or something. Personally, I'm 16, and I've never gone out into the street, opened a car door, pulled the old lady out, driven off, ran over pedestrians, jumped out and shot at a cop with a rocket launcher. I've done it countless times ingame, and yet I know only to do it ingame. Yet by UK Law, I'm not old enough to be able to play the game. It is there to protect me from being harmed by these influences - I've never so much as thought of doing any of those things on that list, although there are a few people I would like to have beaten to death I'm not daft enough to attempt it, and neither is Chris. Now you've just turned 21, which does allow you to play violent games, but that does not give you the right to slag people off just for expressing a very valid and on-topic point of view. ------------- By the way, there is no need to make the topic title all capitals, it reduces people's expectations of your post, and decreases the apparent authenticity of your study, be careful now.

We all know Rockstar don't produce scale models of their locations, but they show all they need to in the space. I would appreciate loads more open space, and a big distance between two cities (which could be speeded up by rail or air travel, or bypassed in a taxi) would be great. France has some great scenery, so having miles and miles of this landscape, littered with villages and hamlets would be great fun. We have no idea whether GTA4 is going to use an existing or a made-up city, but if it is real, picking and choosing them, regardless of their exact geographical location is probably whats going to happen. And slayer, I don't recall Las Vegas, LA and San Francisco being in the same state, do you? But they were ingame. Perhaps some cities could be picked and put in a corresponding quarter of the map. There were three well-defined sections of San Andreas, so I think we can expect there to be similar differences in GTA4. In short, there is every possibility there will be recreated cities that aren't next to each other in real life, separated by different expanses of landscape and countryside. Loads of limestone scenery, with screes and potholes and streams would be great. I hope they develop the technology for having water flow downhill rather than stay at sea level all the time. I smell kayaking

Since I wrote the most recent version of tgtap rules, I'll field an answer. Technically I'm no longer full-time staff, but since I'm here... 1) It depends entirely on the topic and the usefulness of the post. If all you're going to say is "lol" or "yeah me too" then there is no point in replying after a day or two. If the topic is pretty useless, then a week or two is long ago enough for it to be declared old. If its a really useful topic like the GTA4 Wishlist, and that hadn't been posted in for months, perhaps a useful reply would be welcome. If you are unsure, just judge how good your post is, if its one sentence or something short don't bother, if its as long as my point 1 here, then go ahead. If you have a good long post to make, but the topic is a bit spammed already, then go ahead and make a new one. I personally recommend that new members should only post in recent topics, so they get a feel for the atmosphere of these forums. The last thing we want is some new member, with all the best intentions, going round and replying with "lol" to topics two years old, that is the purpose of the bumping rule. 2) This is another good question, but again depends on the usefulness, which is hard for a member to judge. If you come accross a subforum with only old topics in, then the chances are people aren't interested in it anymore. Posting could revive some interest, which is always good, but don't bother making a crap post in a crap topic the highlight of the forums, it won't do your reputation any good. Very old subforums will either be locked (like pre-release discussions) or revived. Speak to an admin if you're still concerned. 3) If your post is a useful contribution to a topic, you are allowed to bump the topic. However, there are many topics and many posts that should not be bumped. If a topic is too old, then just make a new one. If your post is too short, then do not reply to an old topic. It is entirely up to a staff member to make a decision on bumped topics, and they may issue a warning to repeat offenders. Any bumped topics that shouldn't have been bumped will be closed (locked) by a moderator. Glad to have the opportunity to clear this up, and I hope everyone will understand this obscure and vague rule a bit better.

Well if you had nothing to say whatsoever, you wouldn't have made the post in the first place, no?

Crimson was suggesting that if you get a friend who already has the original San Andreas, and you copy some of the files from his installation over your v2 installation, it should remedy the problem.

Where do I put my downloaded mods?
Gerard replied to Love's topic in Suggestions / Help / Bug Reporting
Which game is this for? San Andreas or Vice City or GTA3? You should have posted this in the mods forum for whichever game you're referring to. What type of mod are you trying to add (eg a car)? But just to point you in the right direction, for most mods (eg car/weapon mods) you don't just put the file in a folder. You have to extract the ZIP or RAR, and there should be a readme file in there. That should tell you what to do. If not, post in the correct forum and someone should show you what to do. -
If people are just gonna be on these forums and mess things up, having no respect for anyone else, then there is no point in having them here. This is why people get banned. Including you. If people are respectful, and donate some worthy contributions, and don't make the forums a horrific place to be for everyone else, then they stay and in turn are treated with a degree of respect. Every member has a choice to pick one of those groups - the middle ground is always dangerous. You've been hopping between the two, picking the bits of them that suit you when they suit you. Not everybody gets a second chance, but it appears you have one due to your occasional good contributions. I expect more consistency from you, pick where you're gonna be and be there. Don't think that we'll just forget bad "behaviour" if you just apologise after every incident. Respect has to be earned, and you have the opportunity to earn it. I strongly suggest you do so.
