Well i'm using ie7 right now, and i quite like it. It is a complete copy of Firefox, with almost identical context menus and tabs (tabbed browsing is new for ie). Its sleek design matches the latest Aero build on this version of Windows Vista (used to be Longhorn) which i happen to also be using. The browser isn't the only part of the OS thats copied. The animations and design look like an ipod, but in the familiar Windows layout. A few things have changed though - ie actually shows pages well, it seems to be nice and secure, its got a couple of new user features (decent integrated popup blocker being one), and all the SP2 addons (plugin mgr). The start menu has been completely redesigned. The XP popup has been kept, with the latest used apps and a few sys links, but when you click "all programs", instead of a menu popping out to the side, the contents spill into the applications area (the box above the start menu button), and the subfolders neatly tree from there. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edited exerpt from "Windows Vista - beta 1" on The Technical Place Network Enough blabber about Vista, ie7 is a revolutionary step for Microsoft. Firstly, they've made a secure, feature-rich and socially-acceptable web browser. Secondly, they've responded to public demand, and taken heed of Firefox's growing success. I've been running Vista and IE7 since 1pm this afternoon, and I haven't felt the slightest urge to install Firefox. I imagine that in time i'll require my Colorzilla or Web Developer plugins, which are obviously only for PhirePhox at the moment, what with ie7 being a few days old, but if MS allow developers to freely make extentions for the browser, even if they have to be approved and M$-ified, then i will feel no need to switch back to firefox. I imagine the browsers theme will change with the Windows theme, when there's more than just default Aero 5112. The GTA Place looks great in ie7, and all my sites work as well (and i made them for Firefox). Maybe this little box now knows the difference between ie sites and real sites, and maybe it can act accordingly. I haven't come accross a bad site, only slow ones. No other problems, apart from my graphics driver having a fit cos it only likes XP and Win2k. Its a rare thumbs up from me.

I think that image is a pretty good goal for gta4. If they aimed to achieve those effects, the game quality would be massively improved. The lighting effects are hard to achieve accurately, with the GTAIII engine just brightening the current colours, maybe multiple textures per building would be a possibility, taking into acount the relative position of the streetlights, and maybe the position of the sun. I do like the glow effect of the streetlamps. Coupled with heat-haze, chimney smoke, exhaust fumes and tyre smoke, some good effects could be achieved. One other thing i think would be cool, is if people went do different places depending on what they wanted or needed. Imagine if you created a disturbance, with a firearm, the peds could run and hide behind the nearest bush or wall, or even car. If you shot someone, they would get in the ambulance that came, and that ambulance would drive to the nearest hospital, rather than just driving round randomly. Also if when people drive home, they could put their car in the garage... Maybe, to add to realism and remove bias, if you get a warning level, police cars should come from the police station or ones already on patrol, rather than being spawned just round the corner. Same goes for ambulances, FBI, fire trucks, and Army vehicles. Maybe trees could grow and die, maybe buildings could be regularly replaced, redecorated or maintained.

Yea i've been meaning for that to happen for a long time. I'll set about doing it tonight. -
Its good i like it, but it would look great animated. For example a title sequence.

Bigger or smaller then San Andreas?
Gerard replied to Ghostchild's topic in GTA IV Discussion + Help
Make it bigger, but not twice the size of SA. Timescales one thing we'll have to take into consideration - if you want seven cities, all individually detailed, no two streets the same, then it'll take many years, especially if they do interiors. Four cities is enough, with two main rural areas (maybe countryside and desert again, maybe a large beach area, maybe a large plain, maybe mountainous). Make at least public buildings accessible: Town hall, police stations, hospitals (Like SWAT 3's hospital), Libraries, Office blocks, landmarks (statues, famous buildings). -
Trading stalls is in general chat. Its got less than a thousand replies, and maybe not the most wanted subforum. Dont worry, its only in slightly smaller text.

Many games from many publishers release single-level demo versions of their games, distributed in gaming magazines everywhere. Should Rockstar produce a demo version of GTA4? They haven't done so for a while, but I think it would be enough to satisfy the gaming nation, bring out loads of reviews, and wet the appetites of those that would not otherwise be that interested. They did bring out a demo for Vice City for the PS2 (apparently). This consisted of only the Ocean Beach area, walled off, but they didn't do this for SA. For GTA4, I'm thinking one mission, in a visibly restricted section of the first city. Maybe a car chase mission, or one that involves a new feature (i'm guessing conversations, climbing ladders, or destroying buildings/trees). They could actually hack off the sides of the city, and remove unused textures from gta3.img, so that hackers couldnt bring out more than is first possible. Maybe the PC demo would have encrypted files, so that cheats and modding isn't possible. Of course there would have to be one or two functions in the accessible area - for SA there could have been a hairdressers (but not a tatoo parlour), a pay'n'spray (but not transfender), a binco (but no other shop) and a cluckin' bell (but no other eaterie) This could be released before the first version (presumably PS2), or even just before the PC version is out, so the probable improved quality is visible. Any ideas why Rockstar didn't do this for San Andreas? I think its probably because they don't need to entice more people into getting the game, its a mega-popular francise as it is, AO or not.

chris did that before, maybe keeping everything to do with the forums together. Its not really that prominent a subforum.

I'm sure it was moved for a reason. Even so, i've moved it back and had a little reshuffle.

I'm not quite sure you understand English. What is downloadable now is not the Vice City version of GTA London, it is an early beta version of GTA London, combining a few cars and a few ideas. Many people like it, and indeed I do. If this project does continue, i assure you it will be significantly better than that. Version 0.3 doesn't constitute our best efforts, i'm afraid. As for GTAGB, yea i've spoken to stm a lot over the past few months since he was running london. His cars are amazing, and i have seen a few of his buildings, which are pretty imaginative, and well-made. To be honest, I'm not too sure how well the rest will go down, it is a big project that he is indending to do, and the lack of fascia is only worrying. I'm sure he's got a few tricks up his sleeve, and if anybody can help i'm sure he'll get in touch. As for Trinity, again i've seen some buildings, and some of the early plans - nothing much else though. I dont think i'ts conjuring up enough speculation to be a significantly anticipated release, whereas GTA London is almost entirely speculation.

Full Topic Well as with the release of San Andreas for the PC, and the DFF filters for zmod 2, you would expect us to be working at full pelt to create the next release, including everything we've promised so far. Unfortunately, this is still only a dream. Suction Testicle Man (creator of most of our vehicles) is using all of them in his as-yet-unreleased mod: GTA Great Britain, which we know virtually nothing about. One of the most promising modders, mvi, has switched his efforts into his own mod: GTA Trinity. It seems that most of the modders, and the people who would download the mod, are switching to these projects, which are in full swing. Lack of interest in GTA London, on the part of modders and downloaders, is to be held account for the lack of progress that we have seen since the first releases for Vice City a few weeks ago. Does nobody want to see this mod? Does nobody want to help? I think that GTA London has missed the opportunity to become a great mod, and that with everybody fleeting elsewhere, maybe its time to lay the old dog to rest. Should we divert our efforts to another mod, and just help out there? Should we fight for GTA London's life? In the wake of yet more bombings in London, i would love to make something good come out of this. Is there anything else we could do, besides make a total conversion mod for GTA? You tell me. Please vote and reply.

I hope PatrickW is feeling good for himself. We can't blame him really, he had an opportunity to unlock something funny ingame which had been censored for a reason - you couldn't really expect us all to ignore it. 1.2 million downloads on GTA Garage proves that I think. But look at the damage its cased: Take 2 shares fell 11% last night Wal-Mart, Target and Best Buy have removed the game from their shelves, as they make a policy of not stocking AO games. Parents will further despise the series, and not let their kids have it A victory for worried mothers is NEVER a good thing, they have the upper hand and they will now try harder to take over our lives However, i dont think this will massively affect us. Its already 18 rated here in the UK, and we all have it. Maybe its because the BBFC give out 18 ratings a lot more easily, that our parents are willing to let it slip a bit. Maybe in the US parents take the ESRBs ratings more seriously.

one small point, Firefox doesn't dominate the market. It SHOULD, considering it is the best browser, with the best extensions, and the best support of correctly-made sites, but Internet Explorer still holds around 90% of the web browser market. Microsoft are still shitting themselves about this, and are bringing out IE7, which has a few of Firefox's features, including tabbed browsing, and better support of correctly made sites. I think i'll stick with my fox though. So is Open Source software better? In the case of Operating Systems, I'd be more inclined to trust XP.

Well we've changed the logo, and a few other little things. What do y'all think now?

Could you be more specific? What style do you want it in? (Modern? Vector? Abstract?) How big do you want it to be? What do you want it to say? (Your username?) What do you want it to have in it (images of SA?) Then someone will be able to help you
