Well thats very simple actually, Rockstar have said the game will be a new series of events and known of the game characters (maybe not even locations) from the GTA3 trilogy (GTA3, VC and SA) will re-appear.

Thats odd. Out of curiosity are the programs still running process? Holding Tab + Alt will bring up a small overlay window showing the running programs, there names and a thumbnail. Or, there also Ctrl+Alt+Del in which you can see the running applications and processes.

Thats odd, you should have been given a chance by now. Some need you to do side-missions though, so thats one thing to keep in mind.
