Must be the whole San Andreas, but one special city must be Los Santos, because it's based on Los Angeles, which is a cool city. And it's the place where you got most things to do. I don't know why actually... and the country side was pretty cool to, but that's not a city...

You realize you'd have to edit the topic for a fair "best-GTA-city" trial, because a new Libert City is coming up this month ? :D

If there was an option for San Andreas as in 2004s game I'd choose that , but yes SA is rather a state.

If Vice City was bigger and had more expensive-looking buildings instead of for example some homeless people shack near the bikers' club, I'd choose it. But since it isn't I choose Los Santos , kinda looks like Vice City - mostly good weather , not unlike all-day rainy Liberty city in GTA3 or LCS.

Dude if you go to starfish island you'll see lots of expensive houses, ya know.. it can't all be expensive houses, not everyone's rich.

Yeah , but still it would be nice .That way it would contain the more rich ,sunny and "gang-banging" feel of the game.Or Rockstar should've made some missions in those places , to make those more than just stinking there and costing computer space territories. Don't you think ?

Yeah, that's a good point right there, also count that pools were knee deep.

Vice City to me was the best game but the map wasn't that impressive to drive and explore around. I voted for Liberty City.

Yeah, the roads were usually small so when you tried to speed up you had to slow down again just to turn around the corner, the bridges, the road next to the Malibu Club and the long road on the Eastern side of the West Island were probably the longest roads.

Los Santos rules! Hood life, mostly Afro-Americans :D Then Liberty City for it's great and dangerous loud city and then Vice City for it's peaceful, beach, sunny city. San Fierro comes next because of it's cool roads and atmosphere. Las Venturas comes after because I just didn't like it because of the desert.

Liberty City, the worst place in America IS the best GTA City.

This.

GTA III's Liberty City is my favourite, for a number of reasons.

  • First, it's atmosphere. It's very dark, violent, seedy and corrupt. With petty criminals and prostitutes roaming the streets, dangerous gangs and insanely vicious police (GTA III's LCPD are by far the most potent police force in the series, especially four stars and up. Get caught off-guard in the open by only one squad of FBI agents and you'll be on the ground in seconds, even if you have full armor and health) The weather is suitably dark also. The days are fairly short and rain and fog are frequent. Even when it's sunny, the city has a suitably cold hue about it.
  • Second, the geography. Each borough is so different. Firstly there's Portland, with mazes of side-streets and back alleys... the unique atmospheres of Chinatown and Saint Mark's, light and heavy industry, the harbor, waterfront... with the el-train roaring overhead all the while. Then there's Staunton Island, with huge skyscrapers, expensive cars, condominiums, a huge stadium, the park, overpasses and tunnels, lots of commerce, the building site, the casino... It's such an epic feeling entering Staunton for the first time, crusing around, staring up at the tall buildings. Finally there's Shoreside Vale with the huge airport, an industrial estate, upper and lower class residential areas. Shoreside, in comparison to the others, is mountainous, with huge elevation changes, overlapping roads, bridges and tunnels, the Cochrane Dam, the observatory up on the hill...
  • This is a small point, but I prefer Liberty City's roads to most of the other cities in the series. They're (for the most part, excluding Shoreside) often multi-laned and usually arranged in a tidy grid pattern, making navigation easy. Vice City's roads, by comparison, are all over the place, are usually only two-lane making it harder to overtake, and weave to and fro in awkward patterns. San Fierro is probably the next best when it comes to this.
  • Finally, Liberty is the most significant city in the series, by far. Every single plot in the GTA III trilogy is grounded in Liberty City. (with the possible exception of Vice City Stories)
