Huckleberry Pie
Hmm, my parents don't really mind that much when I play GTA at home; in fact, my mum gets amused sometimes when she sees me piloting something in GTA; sometimes, she reads the prompts telling the player what to do, or something like that... And I'm 18... Edited August 5, 2008 by Huckleberry Pie
TM™
Okay, first of all, look at most of things you do in GTA games. More of the less, there is killing, which is violence. There are prostitutes which you can have sex with, which isn't meant for kids to see/hear. And at some point, swearing. If it was rated like around 15+ or 12+ it would be so much hell. Think about it though. It would probably end up like Manhunt, Banned from most places. I think it's better if they keep it 17+ or 18+ because next year, I'm turning 17. But mainly, I think it's reasonable having this rating considering it has inappropriate stuff. Imagine what would happen if some immature kid gets his/her hand on the game, they might do what the game does. My Parents don't really mind. I mean, come to think of it, they say turn it off since it's got violence and all that. It's ironic considering they don't mind when I'm not playing it (:/). But mainly, I suggest they keep it 17+, so they don't get into stupid immature kids hands.

Hansui
yeah, GTA isn't like the super mario and tetris games. The content is violent and for adults only, but if you'll think that you won't do some shitty stuffs impersonating gta characters, then you're qualified to play it. a lot of members here are 17 below including me, but we know what are the limits and you'll never wish messing up with a cop just because you played gta and claimed that it influenced you much. people like that are ftl
MK47
I'm 13, so yeah. My parents don't really mind me on GTA, but if she knew half the stuff in it, maybe then she'd be aware

Nate10
GrooveKing, if you're parents don't care about the rating.. maybe make THEM get it? Honestly though, ratings don't provoke much trouble. I've walked intoGameStop by myself and bought Manhunt 2. I'm 14..

If you know your limits and you're disciplined enough (like a martial artist, for example), you can play GTA, even if you're below 17. In fact, I've put GTA into practical use sometimes, using it as a resource whenever my seven-year old cousin asks me to draw something like a car for her projects... Honestly, I don't think people that are 'disciplined' enough are the only ones that should be able to play GTA... I think the people that blame killing people on GTA are metally unstable and fucking stupid, and it's just some stupid ass excuse they make. It's easy to play this game, and it's not that evil of a game, and you don't go kill people because you saw it on the game. Plain and simple. Butters!
Yeah - I have to agree with Nate on this one, I mean no-one is "Inspired to Kill" beacuse of GTA. How many 8 year olds who play GTA do you see saying "Oh, Look Mommy - A hooker!!!! Lets Pick her up and have "coffee"! But don't worry Mom, you won't loose money because we'll just shoot her in the head when we're done with her!" It just doesn't happen. If you say GTA is making Kids Violent you could say - Hey lets ban Call of Duty because it makes people wanna have wars or lets get rid of Rap Music because it makes Kids swear. GTA doesn't make People Violent. People who tell other people the game makes them violent makes them violent. Like people drink Coke and they like it but if you tell them it makes them o hyper they will think it does - Then they go Hyper. P.S im only 13 - My dad doesn't mind me playin but Mum doesn't knw i play it
MrLlamaLlama
There are, of course arguments that say that teenagers - especially boys - benefit from a release, such as video games, heavy music, etc. Another place (ingame) where their actions cannot affect those around them, but they can still get a good 'release'. My mother works at a primary school, and the debate is often raised about letting kids play fight (plastic swords and all that shit) - is it building up an instinct to violent behavior, or preventing it from being released elsewhere? Edit: Moved to general GTA.
WRX22B1998
hmmm for good reason i suppose. ^ llama, i think i have to agree with that, it seems to make sense. at least for me, il get annoyed or frustrated or something then go take it out on someone in GTA, or CS or something. i dont think my parents really mind, but my mum wasnt impressed with the scarface game..she walked in just as i cut off someones arm with a chainsaw lol. then tony called them a f***ing maricon. lol. but im 18 now, so
MrLlamaLlama
Yeah, my parents don't really mind either. Like, they'll often walk in to pass the phone, or something, and see me make mincemeat out of someone in Dark Messiah (Full on dismemberment system in that game ) but yeah, they aren't bothered either way. My bro will go out and buy GTA for me, and they don't mind that either. I've been playing the same games as both my bro's (one 3 years, and the other 6 years older than me) since i was 8, so yeah. It never messed me up. Urge to kill....rising....
Kitsune Inferno
GTA should only be played by those mature enough to handle the game without going batshit crazy. I'm turning 17 next year, though I've been playing GTA since I was eight or nine. My parents don't care about the content in the game because they know I won't shoot up my school after a sixteen-hour-long marathon. If anything, it'd be because I got fed the fuck up with the idiots who attend that hellhole.
Blur
Has for 17+ my parents don't mind. I'm 13 and I buy the games myself. They talked about banning Manhunt *scoffs* I bought that game myself in a crowded computer store for sale. And it pissed me off when I went to an other retailer to buy San Andreas v.2 and they asked for my parents... Well lets say I left there with SA It's cool that its rated M for mature because thats exactly what it means its for a mature audience. And I respect R*. It gets me mad when someone insults GTA, but being mature is when you can handle a situition a not going to mimic a stunt you saw on your X-box and murder a taxi driver. Things can sometimes get out of hand ya' know, but if it's not allowed just for the mere fact because the adults think it's bad, then I say bullshit. The people( in this case kids )should be allowed to have fun in the way they prefer to do and just cuz they're young doesn't mean they might not know that this is going to affect them in a way to enjoy chopping people apart. ........ ......Atleast for the most part.
